Dr. Mishra obtained a degree with top honors at the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery and subsequently an M.Sc. in Anatomy at the Queens University, Ontario, Canada and an M.D. from the University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

He had his Internship and Residency in Neurology at the Southwestern Medical School & Parkland Memorial Hospital, University of Texas in Dallas, TX and was a chief resident in Neurology at the West Los Angeles/UCLA Medical center in Los Angeles, CA. He was a faculty in Neurology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center for a period of ten years until 1986.

Since 1986, Dr. Mishra has held various academic positions and has been in leadership positions in his chosen area of special interest namely neuromuscular diseases at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Sepulveda, Keck School of Medicine/USC Medical Center, Olive View UCLA Medical Center, Sylmar, CA and at the David Geffen School of Medicine/UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. He is active in promoting Ayurveda as a form of alternative Medicine both nationally and internationally.
