Doctor Johnson was born in Wilmington, N.C. and spent his formative years in Chicago, Illinois. He obtained a biochemistry degree from Oberlin College, an MD with distinction in research from the University of Rochester, and general surgery residency at UCLA
Doctor Johnson has 39 years of commissioned service and 28 years of active service in the U.S. Navy. He retired at the rank of Rear Admiral in 2005. He currently serves on the advisory boards for the San Diego Military Advisory Council (SDMAC) and the California Governor’s Military Council (GMC). Since 2008 he has been an independent consultant for a variety of established and start-up organizations in the technology and bio-science fields.
